osm_logoAs we head towards a public release, here is a Web Map Service (WMS) for Open Street Map tiles to test out our upcoming spore technology. Don't worry about what it is yet, just go ahead and use the service as it's a free.

OSM WMS 1.1.1 Capabilities Link

The server implements EPSG:4326, so all requests are made as such. Only JPG support is available as well, since OSM is not transparent and this conserves bandwidth. It has been tested with Google Earth, GAIA, uDig and QuantumGIS. As of writing this, QGIS doesn't support jpg servers, so it will not work. Should work with most other WMS servers. Enjoy, and feel free to report bugs or feature requests in our forum.

    I am looking for a WMS layer for OSM to use in any GIS program (ARCGIS for example). I have seen it working but I am not able to retrieve a WMS URL by a google search. Does OSM provide such a service?

    The OSM WMS service is used in the ESRI GEO Viewer (http://geoss.esri.com/geoviewer) that aggregates information related to the Haiti earthquakes. Kudos for providing this WMS!

    If you're trying to use this in conjunction with OpenLayers, you will need to specify the layer name as it is in the caps file. In this case, "layers: 'osm'" should be what you use, not "osmwms".

    I tried to use this snipped with OpenLayers, but do not get any map data. Any idea what is wrong? var osmwms = new OpenLayers.Layer.WMS( "OpenStreetmap WMS", "http://data1.vizure.net/server/services/osm.xml", {layers: 'osmwms', format: 'image/jpeg'}, {attribution: 'Kart: ©OSM/Vizure'} ); map.addLayers([osmwms]);

    Arcgis 9.2 apparently does not support capabilities having an empty title element. Could you please fix that?

    I'm using it in QGIS right now. I guess newer versions support JPG!

    The link OSM WMS 1.1.1. Capabilities links to http://localhost:8080/ctemp/osm.xml which is an error - or at least I cannot connect to that host.
